SCHEELS volunteers enhance playing field outside clubhouse

Thanks to a powerful collaboration between Colorado Springs School District 11, Friends of the Children, and SCHEELS the playing field at Jack Swigert Aerospace Academy received a facelift this week—just in time for summer activities.

The playing field, adjacent to the Friends of the Children clubhouse, is a popular location for Swigert’s middle school children to play. It’s also utilized by children enrolled in Friends of the Children’s program, since the nonprofit leases space on the school’s campus. Colorado Springs School District 11 also allows neighborhood residents to use this large, green area which has basketball courts and a frisbee golf course.

Thanks to SCHEELS’ generosity, they donated and installed two pet waste stations on the playing field, added signage on the frisbee golf course, and donated some discs for the frisbee golf course. In addition, the SCHEELS volunteers conducted some clean-up activities to make the space ready for all of the summer activities that will take place there.

"We are excited to partner with Friends of the Children and District 11 on this project. Our goal is to continue bringing the community together and to support the efforts and impact that these two organizations are already having on their surrounding communities," said Shannyn Wong, Community Relations Lead, SCHEELS.
