February 11, 2025 Spotlight: Emelia Emelia* has been in our program for the last 3 years and is making strides to improving her efforts in school, being responsible and respectful at home, and finding ways to learn about her interests. Like many kids, math has not always come easily. But with her mentor, parents, and teacher all working together to advocate and motivate her, she has found resources to help improve her knowledge and abilities. Recently, her math score jumped a whole letter grade on her report card! Emelia was extremely excited to take her report card to the clubhouse and show the program staff and other mentors. She remarked, "I feel proud of myself and know that they will be proud of me too!" The program has been special for Emelia because it has helped foster exciting memories through community partnerships, like the zoo. Emelia has a deep love for animals and the outdoors. Being able to see animals from all around the world brought a huge smile to Emelia's face. The zookeepers were especially kind in taking their time to answer all of her questions about the responsibility of taking care of each animal. One zoo keeper even let Emelia help with chores for the zoo's goats. Her Friend Carly says that “working with Emelia and her family has been really fun! I’m proud of the teamwork we’ve built to help her and her family progress towards the goals. I’ve seen Emelia grow in self-confidence and take strides to find perseverance. Both great attributes I'm excited to see her carry with her into adulthood.” are very proud of Emelia and are looking forward to seeing how she continues to grow!" *Name changed for privacy
